Aberdeen is a port city located in northeastern Scotland, United Kingdom located along the coast of the North Sea. Aberdeen is the third most populous city in Scotland with over 200,000 residents.

Aberdeen is home to multiple higher education institutions. The largest schools in the city are the University of Aberdeen and the Robert Gordon College, each having more than 10,000 students. The Northern College is a community college, and Aberdeen College is the fourth largest further education college in Scotland. There are 12 secondary schools in the city, with a number of private schools.
Aberdeen F.C. is a professional football club that competes in the Scottish Premier League. The club plays in one of the largest stadiums (Pittodrie) in Scotland, with a seating capacity for more than 20,000 fans.
Aberdeen is home to the Evening Express and the Press and Journal, Scotland’s oldest daily newspaper. Both are published by the Aberdeen Journals company.
Aberdeen is home to dozens of cultural landmarks of museums, galleries, theaters and other venues. His Majesty’s Theatre is one of the largest in the country, with a seating capacity of about 1,500 people. Other notable places include Aberdeen Maritime Museum and Aberdeen Art Gallery.
The discovery of oil in the mid 1900’s in the North Sea fueled the development of a huge oil industry in Aberdeen. Having a location right on the coast of the sea gives the city an advantage in drilling nearby oil reserves. Aberdeen is often referred to as the oil capital of Europe as a result of more than half a million jobs generated over the years.
Aberdeen is home to a large retail industry and is home to one of the largest shopping areas in northern Scotland. Notable centres include The Mall Aberdeen and St Nicholas & Bon Accord, which combine to have more than a 100 total stores. Union Street and Belmont Street are famous areas of shopping, restaurants and entertainment.
